Village Law Firm Launches Lifelong Estate Plan Service

Oct 10, 2026

The Village Law Firm introduces an ongoing estate planning service that moves beyond documents to protect modern families over time.

New York City, New York, United States, October 10, 2026 -- The Village Law Firm, a boutique estate planning and administration practice based in New York City, has announced the expansion of a comprehensive, relationship-based approach to estate planning designed for the realities of modern family life. The firm, founded by estate planning attorney Shannon McNulty, aims to replace the traditional transactional model, which centers on a binder of signed documents, with an ongoing partnership that keeps a family's plan current and functional for years to come.

The announcement reflects a growing recognition that estate planning does not end when a client signs a will or trust. According to the firm, many plans fail not because the documents were poorly drafted, but because they were never fully implemented or updated as a family's circumstances changed.

Rethinking the Document-First Model

For decades - or even centuries - the standard estate planning process has followed a familiar pattern. A client meets with an attorney, reviews a set of documents, signs them, and leaves with a binder that is often filed away and forgotten. The Village Law Firm believes that this approach no longer meets the needs of families whose lives are more complex and more global than ever before.

Modern clients may hold accounts in multiple countries, store digital currency, own several investment properties, or carry stock options in a technology start-up. A plan that captures these assets on paper but is never put into practice can leave families exposed during an emergency.

"A will that no one can find is worthless. A trust that was never funded controls nothing," said Shannon McNulty, founder of The Village Law Firm. "A plan that captured your wishes perfectly on the day it was signed, but hasn't been reviewed since your second child was born, since you moved to a new house, since you started a business, may bear almost no resemblance to the life it was meant to protect."

The firm's position is that the documents are only one component of a complete plan. The remaining components, which include funding trusts, updating beneficiaries, retitling accounts, and preparing guidance for the people who will one day act on a client's behalf, are often where traditional planning falls short.

A Plan Built Around Life, Not Paperwork

Rather than beginning with a template set of documents, The Village Law Firm begins with the client's life and family. The attorneys examine how a family actually functions, what assets exist, where they are located, and what continuity the family would need if a loss occurred. Only after that review does the firm implement documents and other tools intended to provide that continuity.

This sequence is deliberate because the goal is practical readiness rather than theoretical completeness. Following the loss of a loved one, few people want to begin searching for a will or guessing at account passwords. They want a trusted point of contact who can guide them, step by step, through one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

To support that goal, the firm helps clients create an inventory of assets, a plan for digital assets, and written guidance for the guardians or trustees who may be called upon in the future. The intention is to ensure that a family is not left to reconstruct a plan during a crisis.

An Ongoing Partnership, Not a One-Time Transaction

The firm’s expanded service centers on an ongoing client relationship that continues after documents are signed. Clients receive annual reviews, plan updates, secure document storage, and a reliable point of contact for family members during emergencies.

Because life changes through marriages, births, relocations, business formations, and shifts in wealth, regular reviews help keep estate plans aligned with current circumstances.

The firm describes this approach as a lifelong partnership, allowing plans to evolve with clients while providing families with a consistent resource for guidance when needed.

Best Estate Planning Attorney in New York of 2026

Best of Best Review has honored Shannon McNulty, founder of The Village Law Firm, as the Best Estate Planning Attorney in New York of 2026. The award recognizes her dedication to developing personalized estate plans that reflect each family’s circumstances, financial interests, and future goals.

McNulty’s approach combines legal expertise with continued guidance, helping clients put their plans into action and adapt them as life changes. Through The Village Law Firm, she strives to protect family legacies, simplify complex planning decisions, and provide lasting peace of mind.

Serving Global and Complex Families

A significant area of focus for The Village Law Firm is its work with global families. Clients with ties to more than one country face layered challenges, including assets governed by different legal systems, cross-border tax considerations, and the logistics of administering an estate that spans jurisdictions. The firm has a developed practice in coordinating these elements so that an international plan functions when needed and not only on paper.

Beyond global families, the firm serves a broad range of clients, including families with young children, blended families, LGBTQ+ individuals, families with children who have special needs, and high-net-worth households seeking asset protection. The firm also provides Medicaid planning and estate administration services, advising executors, beneficiaries, and those handling international administration. More information about these services is available on the firm's website at www.thevillagelawfirm.com.

Client Response

Clients have described the firm's process as thorough, approachable, and reassuring. In a public Google review, client Dylan Cali wrote that the firm "helped make the process as painless and seamless as possible" and provided "the peace of mind of having an established firm I can rely on for the long-term."

Another client, Roberto Gil, noted that he found the firm through an online advertisement rather than a referral and was initially cautious, but added that "it took no time to build trust and get comfortable." A third client described the experience of setting up a living trust, power of attorney, and health care proxy for a family with three young children, highlighting the support the firm offered in moving assets into the trust after the documents were complete.

Resources and Education

In addition to its legal services, The Village Law Firm maintains a library of educational resources, including blog articles, publications, webinars, a newsletter, and events intended to help the public understand estate planning in clear terms. The firm shares guidance across several channels, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and its YouTube channel. Email directly to [email protected].

EJ Obiena urges better facilities to sustain Philippine sports' golden era

MANILA, Philippines — Olympian EJ Obiena believes Philippine sports are in their golden era, but access to quality facilities remains a major limiting factor for athletes. The two-time Asian Games gold medalist emphasized the critical need for better support during a recent Committee on Sports hearing. “I think sports in general, accessibility is the key. I think Philippine sports are in their golden age right now. We have so many world-class athletes, and I am just very proud that I am part of this era. I hope it gets better and better,” Obiena said.  “I think what’s limiting us is the access to facilities. It is one of the reasons why I train outside, not just because of the knowledge there, but also the current situation of the facilities that we have.” Obiena understood that everyone is trying to upscale the sports program, but compared to the other countries, the scale of support is way too different. “I think everybody is doing their best. I have traveled from quite different countries, and I understand that the support in our country is not as big as what I said. In terms of the general budget…” Obiena trained at the University of Santo Tomas athletics team before he moved to Formia, Italy in 2014 to train under renowned Ukrainian coach Vitaly Petrov. He stayed in Italy for more than a decade, where it shaped him into the first-ever Filipino pole vaulter to compete in the Olympics in 2020. In 2026, Obiena moved to Athens, Greece, where he began training under coach Marcin Szczepanski alongside Emmanouil Karalis. He further shared that he holds a pole vault clinic with the brands he partnered with. A total of 21 young pole vaulters in Ilocos and around 18 in Tagum.  “This is just my small way… Hopefully, this will be an ongoing thing we can sustain… Continuous flow of athletes for our pole vaulting event, because I really want to make Philippines a powerhouse in this event, and hopefully in track and field as well.”

Jahns returns sharper, hungrier for PGT crown at Pueblo

Jahns returns sharper, hungrier for PGT crown at Pueblo

MANILA, Philippines — Keanu Jahns returns to the Philippine Golf Tour with his game a notch sharper and his hunger for victory even greater as he shoots for an elusive win in the circuit’s final stages. The ICTSI Pueblo de Oro Championship unwraps on Oct. 12 in Cagayan de Oro, with Jahns expected to put his long, powerful game to good use on Pueblo de Oro’s open layout and finally break into this year’s PGT winner’s circle. The Fil-German also brings with him a boost in confidence from his recent campaign in the DP World Tour Qualifying, where he came within two strokes of securing one of the coveted Top 13 spots. Although he fell short in the final round in Denmark, Jahns showed he had the game to contend, staying in the hunt through the first three rounds before wavering on the last day. More importantly, the experience gave him a valuable glimpse of the level required to compete on a bigger stage. Jahns hopes to carry that experience – and the lessons gained from it – into Pueblo de Oro, where he seeks to turn another strong showing into the victory that has eluded him this season. A three-time PGT winner last year, including the season-ending Match Play Championship, Jahns has come close in five starts this year but has yet to capture a title. He has posted three Top 5 finishes, highlighted by a third-place effort at Lakewood and a fourth-place finish at Pradera Verde. He also tied for fourth in his most recent PGT appearance at Summit Point before embarking on his bid to reach the lucrative DP World Tour through a series of qualifiers. But Jahns will have plenty of formidable challengers at Pueblo de Oro, where another fiercely contested four-day battle is expected to unfold. The last several PGT legs have produced tight, drama-filled finishes, and the most recent stop in Iloilo was no exception. Jhonnel Ababa endured a tournament-long test of will and character before displaying poise in the stretch run to outmaneuver Jeffren Lumbo and snap a two-year title drought in the circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. That victory gave the Apo ace added momentum heading into Pueblo de Oro, but a host of other contenders are equally motivated to claim a share of PGT glory with only three legs remaining this season, including the South Pacific and Apo legs, both set in Davao later this month. Aside from Jahns and Ababa, the field features a mix of seasoned champions and emerging contenders led by reigning Order of Merit winner Angelo Que, already a two-time champion this year, and Tony Lascuña, fresh from a pro-am tournament triumph. Former leg winners Rupert Zaragosa, Reymon Jaraula, Guido van der Valk and Lumbo are also expected to contend, along with Negros Occidental first-time champion Art Arbole. Russell Bautista, Ryan Monsalve, Jonas Magcalayo, Jeremy Tandoy and Ivan Yabut, meanwhile, are eager to test themselves against the established names and add more firepower to an already deep field. Foreign bidders Kim Tae Soo, Chonkoo Kang and Lee Song further add to the competitive mix, setting the stage for another high-quality, closely fought championship at Pueblo de Oro. TMT

No first-round bye for projected No. 13 seed Eala at Wuhan

No first-round bye for projected No. 13 seed Eala at Wuhan

MANILA, Philippines — Due to a smaller draw, projected No. 13 seed Alex Eala won't receive a first-round bye at the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open in China. The Filipino tennis ace will compete in the tournament -- her first Tour event after a bronze medal finish at the 20th Asian Games in Japan -- slated from October 12 to 18. Unlike most 1000 events where 96 players make up the field and the top 32 players receive first-round byes, Wuhan is limited to a 56-player draw. In this case, only the top eight get to skip the first round and start their campaign in the second. The same rule applies to the only two other 1000 events with a 56-player draw in Doha and Dubai. Thus, world No. 18 Eala won't have the bye she used to have in previous 1000 events. The 56-player draw -- comprised of 43 direct entrants, 8 qualifiers, 4 widlcards, and 1 special exemption -- is also the reason why Eala had to go through the qualifiers last year. Eala was No. 58 at the time and therefore could not get a direct entry. She lost to Moyuka Uchijima in the first round of the qualifiers last year, 4-6, 6-3, 2-6. This year, Eala is projected to be seeded five places higher than her actual ranking due to the withdrawals of five higher-ranked players. World No. 1 Elena Rybakina (foot), No. 4 and last year's champ Coco Gauff (fatigue), No. 11 Amanda Anisimova (wrist), No. 15 Victoria Mboko (knee), and No. 17 Naomi Osaka (change of schedule) pulled out of the competition. World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, No. 3 Jessica Pegula, No. 5 Mirra Andreeva, No. 6 Linda Noskova, No. 7 Elina Svitolina, No. 8 Karolina Muchova, No. 9 Iga Swiatek, and No. 10 Marta Kostyuk made the top eight, in that order, and will be the ones to get first-round byes. The singles draw ceremony was scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. After the Asian Games, Eala went to France for Paris Fashion Week on October 5. The 21-year-old also appeared in tennis great Maria Sharapova's podcast "Pretty Tough". Last Thursday, the Wuhan Open shared photos of Eala training already.
