POTENTIAL RISKS OF CHATGPT-MAKER’S WORLDCOIN

Aug 30, 2023

THESE ARE THE REAL CONCERNS WITH WORLDCOIN

United States Minor Outlying Islands - August 30, 2023 —

“This article will describe Worldcoin and address the potential risks that might occur if governments and people start using it.”

WHAT IS WORLDCOIN?

WorldCoin, built by Tools for Humanity, is known as an open-source system that was created to help provide the general public access to the global economy. It is mainly designed to be decentralized. The startup promises the supervision and decisions of this protocol will be in the hands of the community users.

There are a few tools developed by the people and organizations supporting Worldcoin that help it achieve its purpose:

  • WORLD ID

A privacy preserving digital identity provided to each user. It is designed to help solve important identity-based challenges and proving individual's unique person hood

  • WORLDCOIN TOKEN

This is the first token to be globally and freely distributed to the people for utility and future governance for them being a unique individual.

  • WORLD APP

This is a fully self-custodial app that helps enable payments, purchases and transfers globally using the Worldcoin token, digital assets and traditional currencies

The rise of Cryptocurrencies has sparked apprehension across the globe one such cryptocurrency has gained attention known as “Worldcoin”. Worldcoin is referred to as a revolutionary digital currency with a lot of benefits for financial inclusions and cross-border transactions. However, a closer view at Worldcoin reveals some of its disadvantages regarding privacy, security and its impact on economically unstable countries.

POTENTIAL RISKS OF SIGNING UP FOR WORLDCOIN

“Uncertainty surrounds how Worldcoin’s mechanism might pave the path for an AI-based universal basic income.”

  • LOSS OF DATA PRIVACY AND SECURITY

Worldcoin’s blockchain technology raises concerns about the user's privacy despite the promise of anonymity. Unlike traditional financial systems which are mostly a subject to regulatory oversight, the pseudonymous aspect of cryptocurrencies like Worldcoin can help initiate illicit activities such as Money laundering, tax evasion and funding of criminal enterprises.

Like many other cryptocurrencies, Worldoin relies on blockchain technology for safe and secure transactions. Events and Incidents have highlighted the suspect ability of blockchain networks to cyberattacks and hacking. The decentralized aspect of cryptocurrencies is like a hurdle for the government and the regulatory bodies as they have a hard time monitoring the transactions in order to prevent cyber threats efficiently. Moreover, WorldCoins capability to cater Cross-Border transactions without proper security regulations and oversight can facilitate illicit funds, challenges related to money laundering and finance terrorism.

Certik, a blockchain security firm, discovered a vulnerability in the Worldcoin protocol that allows unauthorized access for Orb operators. The vulnerability allowed anyone to bypass verification requirements and become an Orb operator without meeting necessary criteria.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Worldcoin’ s mechanism of consensus proof of work is similar to that of bitcoin as it demands substantial power and energy consumption. This contributes to the ongoing concerns regarding the environmental footmark of cryptocurrencies particularly in a world struggling for sustainable prices in order to have an affordable lifestyle.

Furthermore, the analysis of WorldCoin casts a discerning eye on the repercussions of WorldCoins prefiltration in economically unstable nations especially in developing countries.

  • INFLUENCE ON DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

The Developing states have vulnerable economies, and the populace lacks adequate education. They are more susceptible to be duped and getting involved. Back in December of 2021, Iyus Ruswandi, a 35-year-old furniture maker in Gunungguruh, Indonesia, attended a “social assistance giveaway” at a local islamic elementary school, which was held by Worldcoin representatives. They were collecting biometric data from villagers, offering free cash, Airpods and promises of future wealth. Village officials were also represented to maintain order. Worldcoin representatives visited villages across West Java, Indonesia as well as college campuses, metro stops, markets and urban centers in two dozen countries, most of them in the developing countries. However, they did not provide much information on their true intentions. Rather than understanding what Worldcoin is, most people signed up for free stuff, according to MTI’s report.

WorldCoin promises to provide financial involvements and regulate cross-border transactions. These measures should be taken by the government as without proper regulations and security measures these countries could face extreme money laundering and other financial crimes leading to financial instability.

Besides, the quick gains using cryptocurrency investments are capable of enticing vulnerable populations of developing countries leading to widespread financial instability and loss. This marks the immediate need of the government to take charge and impose comprehensive and regulatory frameworks.

REGULATIONS ARE NEEDED

A cryptocurrency-based universal basic income with a fair distribution is what Worldcoin advertises, but all it has accomplished thus far is use the bodies of the underprivileged to create a biometric database. Despite Kenya being the first nation to start the initiative, this month the Kenyan government ordered Worldcoin to halt adding new users because of data protection concerns. Authorities must have discovered something criminal throughout their inquiry.

As per these concerns the governments of developing nations must take measures to regulate the use of Worldcoin and other cryptocurrencies in order to overcome the major issues like, money laundering and other financial crimes leading to financial instability. To overcome the potential threats of WorldCoin the government can introduce stringent anti money laundering and cyber security protocols. These security measures can help monitor the transactions and help in preventing illicit activities and provide security to the investor and public.

Cardinals eye to extend win streak vs Altas

MAPUA University will look to secure its fifth consecutive victory when it faces University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta in the crossover round of the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament on Friday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. Currently holding a 5-3 record, the Mapua Cardinals aim to climb higher in the Group A standings. They take on the Perpetual Altas at 3 p.m., followed by a matchup between winless San Sebastián College-Recoletos (0-7) and Lyceum of the Philippines University (2-5) at 5 p.m. The Cardinals started their campaign with three consecutive losses before bouncing back with four straight wins against San Beda University, Arellano University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, and Letran. In their narrow 69-67 victory over Letran, Mapua displayed a well-rounded offensive attack. Five players—Yam Concepcion, Lance Nitura, Marcus Nitura, Jamal Diaz, and Marc Igliane—contributed identical 11-point performances to seal the win. Mapua currently sits behind Group A leaders Benilde (6-1), Jose Rizal University (6-1), and San Beda University (5-3). A victory against Perpetual could allow Mapua to overtake defending champions San Beda in the standings and boost their bid for a twice-to-beat advantage in the next round. The Cardinals will need to get past the Perpetual Altas, who are eager to snap a four-game skid. Perpetual is coming off an 89-98 defeat against Lyceum, despite a strong showing from Ray Maglupay and LA Casinillo, who tallied 19 and 17 points, respectively. Meanwhile, the 5 p.m. fixture features Group B’s bottom-seeded San Sebastián seeking its first win of the season against Group A’s Lyceum.  The Golden Stags suffered a 102-78 blowout loss to the JRU Heavy Bombers and will lean on Rey Gabat and Niel Castor, while Lyceum counters with the duo of Matthew Rubico and Renz Villegas. Under tournament rules, the top two teams from each pool will secure a twice-to-beat quarterfinals advantage, while the bottom two teams will advance to the play-in round.

Philta supports Eala: She inspired a nation

PHILIPPINE Tennis Association (Philta) Secretary General John Rey Tiangco said the federation is standing behind tennis star Alex Eala, following her recent stint in Wuhan, China. Her upset loss in the first round prompted questions from netizens about her priorities, that included appearances in fashion shows in Europe and the United States. “Alex Eala has already achieved what many once thought impossible. She has single-handedly put the Philippines on the world tennis map. Today, conversations about international tennis include Alex Eala and the Philippines. That alone is a remarkable achievement,” Tiangco said in a statement late on Wednesday. “Her rise to world No. 18, her WTA title, and her victories over some of the world’s best players are milestones that have changed the landscape of Philippine tennis. We are equally grateful for her decision to represent our country at the Asian Games, putting the Philippine flag ahead of other opportunities,” he added. The Navotas mayor said that Eala already inspired a nation and “opened doors for the next generation of Filipino tennis players.” “At this level of competition, victories and defeats are part of the journey. What matters is Alex’s determination to keep improving, her discipline, and her commitment to the sport,” Tiangco said. “We at Philta are immensely proud of Alex, grateful for everything she has done for Philippine tennis, and fully behind her as she continues to make history,” he added. Eala, who was also fresh off a bronze medal finish at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, is continuing her journey in China, as she takes on the Ningbo Open.

Fajardo 5 points away from 10K career points

NINE-TIME league Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo is just five points away from reaching the 10,000 career points following San Miguel Beer’s lopsided 135-105 beating of Terrafirma in their PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup Wednesday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The Cebuano gentle giant finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds as he dominated the paint against the Dyip’s rookie big man Geo Chiu, who only had eight and two against the powerhouse Beermen. The 6-foot-10 Fajardo admitted he’s not even thinking of joining the elite club, but still thankful to eventually become part of it. “I’m not chasing it (10,000-point club) but thankful that I’ll be included in the 10,000 points club. It’s one big honor to be a part of that,” he told media men. Fajardo, who will turn 38 in November, has a chance to become just the 18th local player to reach the 10,000-point club on Oct. 21 when San Miguel battles NLEX at the close of the elimination round. While joining the elite club is a matter of time, Fajardo is set to be the  second active player to achieve it after TNT guard Jayson Castro who registered the milestone last May 13, 2026 in a game against NLEX at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. As per PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon, Fajardo will also become the just the fifth player for both local and import to reach the 10,000-point mark as a San Miguel player, following the footsteps of legendary reinforcement and later, grand slam PBA coach Norman Black, Abet Guidaben, Allan Caidic, and Nelson Asaytono.

Letran, SBU fight to stay alive in playoffs race

LETRAN and San Beda University battle for survival in the race for the last playoffs berth in Pool A of the 2026 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.     With the unbeaten reigning champion National University already through to the second round, four other squads in the pool are scrambling for the final bus ride to the next phase. The Lady Knights and Lady Red Spikers are looking to get back on the winning track when they collide at 1 p.m. to open the busy triple-header playdate of the league’s centerpiece competition, backed by Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken, Potato Corner and R&B Milk Tea.    Letran, the reigning NCAA champion, suffered a 21-25, 14-25, 19-25, defeat at the hands of the Lady Bulldogs last week and slipped to a 1-1 win-loss slate tied with University of Perpetual Help System Dalta. Winless San Beda, on the other hand, squandered a 2-1 match lead against Lady Altas in a sorry 30-28, 19-25, 25-23, 17-25, 14-16, loss last Saturday for a 0-2 slate, pushing the team on the brink of elimination.    Meanwhile, NU shoots for a group stage sweep when it takes on desperate Perpetual at 5 p.m. The five-peat-seeking Lady Bulldogs rolled past their first three opponents without dropping a single set. But head coach Norman Miguel is not taking the Lady Altas lightly. “Honestly, that’s No. 1 that I always remind the team: not to underestimate the skills of NCAA teams. I always tell them that they train hard too in order to win. The level of competition in the NCAA is getting higher,” he said. In Pool B action, College of Saint Benilde and Jose Rizal University collide at 3 p.m., with the winner earning a lifeline to the group’s last playoff ticket. Both squads dropped their opening assignments.  Only the top two teams in each pool will advance to the next phase of the tournament, supported by Smart, PusoP.com DICT, Executive Optical, Milo and Summit Natural Drinking Water.     Pool D’s University of the Philippines (2-0) and Adamson University (2-1), Far Eastern University (2-0) of Pool C and Pool B’s University of Santo Tomas (2-0) have also punched their way to the playoffs of the competition, which has the Philippine Sports Commission, the Commission on Higher Education, Mikasa, Asics, Rigour Technology, Jersey Haven, Solar Sports and 12 Beyond Production as technical partners.

Top seed Sabalenka falls in Wuhan

WUHAN, China — A frustrated Aryna Sabalenka suffered a second successive early exit as her bid for a fourth Wuhan Open title was foiled by American world No. 31 Ann Li, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5), in round two on Wednesday night. The top-seeded Sabalenka fell to Nikola Bartunkova in the third round at the China Open last week and squandered a 6-3, 4-2 lead against Li to stumble at her very first hurdle in Wuhan. The Belarusian four-time major winner lost her number one ranking to Elena Rybakina last month and has not won a title since March. Playing with protective taping around her right knee, Sabalenka was in control of the match until Li swung the momentum in her direction halfway through the second set. Sabalenka asked for the trainer when she was broken early in the decider and appeared to be struggling with her movement. Still, she was able to wipe a 2-5 deficit, saving nine match points along the way. Li steadied the ship, though, and finished the job in two hours and 27 minutes on her 10th opportunity, to set up a last-16 clash with Indonesia’s Janice Tjen. Meanwhile, second-seeded Jessica Pegula, the runner-up in Wuhan last year, was also sent packing. The American suffered a 2-6, 7-6 (9/7), 6-3 upset at the hands of Jelena Ostapenko, wasting three match points en route. Ostapenko is the first player to beat Pegula in her opening match at a WTA 1000 event since Indian Wells two and a half years ago, snapping Pegula’s 22-event winning streak in openers at this level. Earlier, six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek launched her Wuhan Open campaign by triumphing 6-2, 6-1 in an all-Polish battle against lucky loser Magdalena Frech. Swiatek posted her 40th victory of the season in one hour and 42 minutes and no longer has Sabalenka as a potential roadblock in the quarterfinals. “We know each other pretty well, so I just wanted to focus on being consistent and playing as good as possible,” Swiatek, the seventh seed, said of Frech. “I know she is running to every ball always and sometimes using the power of the opponent, so I wanted to not play too crazy but play solid and I’m happy that I did that,” said Swiatek, who is chasing a qualification spot for the year-end WTA Finals. Despite the lopsided scoreline the opening set was tight, lasting over an hour and requiring Swiatek to erase a 0-2 deficit and save seven of eight break points before she finally took the lead on her fourth set point. Upping the pressure with her relentless forehand, Swiatek breezed through the second set to advance to a round of 16 meeting with American lucky loser Ashlyn Krueger. Wimbledon finalist Karolina Muchova weathered a three-hour storm to come through 3-6, 7-6 (7/1), 7-6 (7/4) against American qualifier Caty McNally to extend her record in tiebreaks this season to a perfect 10-0. The sixth-seeded Muchova will face Diana Shnaider in the round of 16. British world number 170 Sonay Kartal, who missed six months this year with a spinal stress fracture, upset ninth-seeded Belinda Bencic, 6-0, 7-5, to book a third-round date with Italian 15th seed Jasmine Paolini.

McIlroy targets Race to Dubai finale

NEW DELHI — Since completing the career Grand Slam, Rory McIlroy has been constantly looking for new ways to inject some freshness and spark into his golf. Turns out two of his longtime Ryder Cup teammates are providing some inspiration. For this week’s DP World India Championship, McIlroy has brought along a new look — baggy golf pants. After all, Tommy Fleetwood has been wearing them for a while. “I have watched and I have admired Tommy Fleetwood over the past year,” McIlroy said, with a smile, on Wednesday’s DP World Locker Room show about his style that has generated plenty of chatter in New Delhi this week. “And in my everyday life, when I don’t have to wear what is my golf uniform, I wear a lot of wide-legged pants. It is the in-thing, the fashionable thing.” But how, McIlroy was asked, do they feel to play golf in? “These hit a little low, maybe a little short ... I understand they are maybe not as well-fitting as they need to be,” he said, “but they are a work in progress.” Also in the works for the Northern Irishman is a replica of what he calls his “performance trailer” that he uses in the United States to aid his fitness and recovery during and between PGA Tour events, in an effort to gain an edge over rivals. Now, he wants one for when he plays on the European tour, too. McIlroy said that idea came from tennis great Novak Djokovic but also fellow golfer Justin Rose. “I decided to pull the trigger on it when Justin won in Memphis last year,” McIlroy said. “He’s 45 years old, playing great, contending in major championships, and at that time I was 36. I was like, I want to play really well for the next 10 years — I feel like I need to do something like this.”

Luka Doncic ready to lead Lakers post-LeBron

Luka Doncic ready to lead Lakers post-LeBron

THIS is firmly Luka Doncic’s team now after LeBron James left behind the Lakers — and his oldest son — to chase another ring in Philadelphia, and the reigning NBA scoring champion seems determined to demonstrate his ability to carry a team deep into the playoffs.  Doncic spent the offseason getting into top shape after mis-sing last spring’s playoffs with a hamstring injury, and he invited the entire roster on a bonding trip to his native Slovenia.  The Lakers will miss James’ playmaking and reliability when healthy, but Doncic and high-scoring Austin Reaves lead a roster that is deeper than last season, according to Redick.  It’s definitely younger, and it should be better defensively. The Lakers brought in nine new players in the latest summer of total roster upheaval, but they believe this group will stay together long enough to turn into a true title contender.  That’s largely up to the brilliance of the 27-year-old Doncic, who is squarely in his prime years as he chases his first NBA championship. The good: Doncic remains one of the NBA’s most brilliant offensive players, and the undrafted Reaves has grown into a dependable counterpoint who deserved his $185 million extension.  The biggest addition is center Kessler, who fills Doncic’s desire for a rim protector and lob finisher. Kessler has been dominant at times when healthy in his brief NBA career, and he appears to embrace the challenge of playing under Holly-wood’s bright lights.  The Lakers are indeed deeper, with guards Sexton and Grimes leading a new supporting cast. The not-so-good: It’s hard to imagine the Lakers being more than mediocre without Doncic, whose health will be paramount.  He hasn’t played in more than 70 games since he was a rookie, and he managed only 64 last season.  Reaves has carried the Lakers for short stretches without Doncic and James, but he was limited to 51 games last season. Kessler played only five games for Utah last year before starting the preseason deliberately, but he expects to be at full health.  The Lakers also need somebody to step up as a 3-and-D contributor on the perimeter, but they have several good candidates.
