The new book, titled “Hacking Modern Teaching”, is intended to help educators better understand the needs of their students in order to create more engaging lesson plans. The tips presented in the book are designed to encourage flexibility and communication, both of which have been shown to lead to better long-term retention.

Mike Roberts has compiled this information in the new book in the hopes of solving a variety of problems facing the modern classroom. He defies the traditional learning model by focusing on strategies to build engagement above all else, which he says is more likely to create a learning environment that will benefit all students.

These tips are presented in an easy-to-digest ten-step format, with each step focusing on a seldom-considered aspect of the learning process. Through this process, readers will be encouraged to evaluate not only their own teaching strategies, but the unique learning processes of their students.

Roberts has compiled these strategies over the course of his career as a middle school educator and instructional coach. His experience at the intersection of these two disciplines has equipped him to share the strategies he has learned in a concise and digestible way, which is why Times 10 Publications chose his work for publication.

One reader had this to say about the book, “All teachers know that the best PD comes from good teachers. Roberts’ new book is grounded in his own teaching experience and framed by the wisdom and good will of his reflections upon that experience. This book has hacks that new and experienced teachers alike can put into practice right away.”

Roberts claims that in the traditional learning model, students are driven not by curiosity but by fear of punishment, usually in the form of a bad grade or low test score. By refreshing the process of student engagement with the course material, he says that educators are likely to see improvement in the emotional and intellectual connection of their students with the lessons being taught.

South African Jarvis eyes Alfred Dunhill title

LONDON — Casey Jarvis on Saturday moved a step closer to winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship after building a two-stroke lead heading into the final round. Jarvis’s round of seven-under par on the Old Course at St Andrews maintained his fine form at the links event. The tournament is played over three courses — Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews — with the latter also hosting the last round on Sunday. Jarvis, who held a one-shot advantage overnight, opened with a superb eagle on his approach from 103 yards before picking up three birdies ahead of the turn despite the windy conditions. Two more on the back nine, at three and five, saw him sign for a 65, to sit at 18 under, ahead of Englishman Matthew Jordan and Poland’s Adrian Meronk, who shot the joint-best round of the day with a nine-under 63 at Kingsbarns. “I just felt like I was in control of my game today,” said Jarvis, who is aiming to seal a third DP World Tour win this season. “Every golfer dreams of taking a lead, playing the Old Course on Sunday. I got goosebumps right now just standing here. “I just can’t wait for tomorrow. Even if I don’t win, to be taking the lead, I am just going to enjoy it as much as I can.” Chasing his first DP World Tour win in his 183rd tournament, Jordan carded a bogey-free 66 during his third round at Kingsbarns. Belgian Thomas Detry is at 15-under after his seven-under at St Andrews, while Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen, who made a nine-under 63 at Kingsbarns, is four shots off the lead.
