Bringing Authentic Handwoven Wayuu Crossbody Bags to Australia's Fashion-Forward Community.

Australia - October 11, 2023 /MarketersMEDIA/ —

Mochila, founded by the visionary Kellys Carreno, is excited to unveil its meticulously curated collection of Wayuu crossbody bags to the Australian market. These exquisite handwoven creations provide a genuine taste of authenticity, encompassing a wide range of tote bags, handbags, and crossbody bags, all meticulously crafted with precision and care by skilled Wayuu artisans. Each bag serves as a living testament to the rich heritage and advanced craftsmanship of Colombia's indigenous Wayuu tribe. A slow, meticulous process ensures that every piece is unique, featuring distinct patterns and colors that tell a captivating story.

The La Guajira Peninsula, a breathtaking region that stretches across Colombia and Venezuela, is renowned for its natural beauty and, more significantly, as the ancestral home of the Wayuu tribe and the iconic Mochila Wayuu bags. These bags are far from ordinary accessories; they are living expressions of the Wayuu culture's rich heritage.

Kellys Carreno, the innovative mind behind Mochila, explains the significance of the brand's name: "The word 'Mochila' pays homage to authenticity, and each Wayuu bag, or 'Susu' in the native Wayuunaiki tongue, narrates a vibrant story of the Wayuu culture."

For Carreno, founding Mochila transcended the mere act of selling bags; it was about navigating through challenges, understanding the digital realm, and, most importantly, ensuring that each bag remained deeply rooted in its cultural heritage. "Every day has been a learning experience, but our unwavering passion propels us forward. We are deeply committed to introducing Australia to the vibrant culture of Wayuu Mochilas," added Kellys Carreno.

According to the brand, every design and color choice carries a profound narrative, encapsulating a piece of art and a fragment of someone's soul. Through these Wayuu tote bags, Mochila seeks not only to present a product but to share the captivating art, history, and tradition of the Wayuu people.

Wayuu bags, celebrated for their vibrant hues and intricate patterns, are a testament to artisan craftsmanship that starkly contrasts with a world dominated by mass production. These authentic handmade bags are crafted passionately, imbued with tradition, and adorned with modern style.

Here are some unique features that set The Mochila Wayuu bags apart from the competition, making them a must-have accessory:

Unique and Handcrafted: Each bag is meticulously handwoven by Wayuu indigenous artisans, ensuring authenticity and uniqueness.

Durable and Long-Lasting: These bags are made to withstand the test of time, a true investment in style.

Ethical and Fair Trade: Purchasing a Mochila Wayuu bag empowers artisans and supports their families, contributing to the local economy.

Cultural Significance: These bags represent Wayuu culture, a fusion of tradition and modern style.

Vibrant and Unique Designs: Every piece tells its story through intricate patterns and colors.

Australia's Must-Have Cultural Accessory: Mochila Wayuu bags are more than just accessories; they're cultural statements.

Quality over Quantity: Mochila prioritizes quality and authenticity over mass production.

Kellys Carreno emphasizes that purchasing a Mochila Wayuu bag ensures fair compensation for the artisans, empowering them and contributing to the local economy. Beyond financial support, it allows Wayuu women to preserve their cultural heritage, continue their traditional craft, and provide for their families, thereby fostering the preservation of an ancient art form and the livelihood of a vibrant, resilient community.

MANILA, Philippines — Five-peat-seeking National University swept Arellano University, 25-12, 25-16, 25-14, for a third straight win in the 2026 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.  The Lady Bulldogs survived a tough challenge early in the second set before cruising the rest of the way to remain unbeaten in Pool A of the league’s centerpiece competition, backed by Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken, Potato Corner and R&B Milk Tea. Chams Maaya finished with 10 points on six spikes, two aces and two kill blocks to lead NU, which has yet to drop a set. “Nagpo-focus kami sa sarili namin kung paano pa namin mai-improve ang skills namin kasi every game, every set, every point ay kailangang mag-improve kami,” Maaya said. Celine Marsh added eight points, Arah Panique had seven markers while Denesse Daylisan scored six for the Lady Bulldogs, who completed a sweep of their back-to-back assignments and inched closer to securing a playoffs seat.     NU found itself struggling at the start of the second frame and trailed the Lady Chiefs, 7-11, after a Samantha Maranan offspeed attack. EJ Obiena urges better facilities to sustain Philippine sports' golden era

EJ Obiena urges better facilities to sustain Philippine sports' golden era

MANILA, Philippines — Olympian EJ Obiena believes Philippine sports are in their golden era, but access to quality facilities remains a major limiting factor for athletes. The two-time Asian Games gold medalist emphasized the critical need for better support during a recent Committee on Sports hearing. “I think sports in general, accessibility is the key. I think Philippine sports are in their golden age right now. We have so many world-class athletes, and I am just very proud that I am part of this era. I hope it gets better and better,” Obiena said.  “I think what’s limiting us is the access to facilities. It is one of the reasons why I train outside, not just because of the knowledge there, but also the current situation of the facilities that we have.” Obiena understood that everyone is trying to upscale the sports program, but compared to the other countries, the scale of support is way too different. “I think everybody is doing their best. I have traveled from quite different countries, and I understand that the support in our country is not as big as what I said. In terms of the general budget…” Obiena trained at the University of Santo Tomas athletics team before he moved to Formia, Italy in 2014 to train under renowned Ukrainian coach Vitaly Petrov. He stayed in Italy for more than a decade, where it shaped him into the first-ever Filipino pole vaulter to compete in the Olympics in 2020. In 2026, Obiena moved to Athens, Greece, where he began training under coach Marcin Szczepanski alongside Emmanouil Karalis. He further shared that he holds a pole vault clinic with the brands he partnered with. A total of 21 young pole vaulters in Ilocos and around 18 in Tagum.  “This is just my small way… Hopefully, this will be an ongoing thing we can sustain… Continuous flow of athletes for our pole vaulting event, because I really want to make Philippines a powerhouse in this event, and hopefully in track and field as well.”

Jahns returns sharper, hungrier for PGT crown at Pueblo

Jahns returns sharper, hungrier for PGT crown at Pueblo

MANILA, Philippines — Keanu Jahns returns to the Philippine Golf Tour with his game a notch sharper and his hunger for victory even greater as he shoots for an elusive win in the circuit’s final stages. The ICTSI Pueblo de Oro Championship unwraps on Oct. 12 in Cagayan de Oro, with Jahns expected to put his long, powerful game to good use on Pueblo de Oro’s open layout and finally break into this year’s PGT winner’s circle. The Fil-German also brings with him a boost in confidence from his recent campaign in the DP World Tour Qualifying, where he came within two strokes of securing one of the coveted Top 13 spots. Although he fell short in the final round in Denmark, Jahns showed he had the game to contend, staying in the hunt through the first three rounds before wavering on the last day. More importantly, the experience gave him a valuable glimpse of the level required to compete on a bigger stage. Jahns hopes to carry that experience – and the lessons gained from it – into Pueblo de Oro, where he seeks to turn another strong showing into the victory that has eluded him this season. A three-time PGT winner last year, including the season-ending Match Play Championship, Jahns has come close in five starts this year but has yet to capture a title. He has posted three Top 5 finishes, highlighted by a third-place effort at Lakewood and a fourth-place finish at Pradera Verde. He also tied for fourth in his most recent PGT appearance at Summit Point before embarking on his bid to reach the lucrative DP World Tour through a series of qualifiers. But Jahns will have plenty of formidable challengers at Pueblo de Oro, where another fiercely contested four-day battle is expected to unfold. The last several PGT legs have produced tight, drama-filled finishes, and the most recent stop in Iloilo was no exception. Jhonnel Ababa endured a tournament-long test of will and character before displaying poise in the stretch run to outmaneuver Jeffren Lumbo and snap a two-year title drought in the circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. That victory gave the Apo ace added momentum heading into Pueblo de Oro, but a host of other contenders are equally motivated to claim a share of PGT glory with only three legs remaining this season, including the South Pacific and Apo legs, both set in Davao later this month. Aside from Jahns and Ababa, the field features a mix of seasoned champions and emerging contenders led by reigning Order of Merit winner Angelo Que, already a two-time champion this year, and Tony Lascuña, fresh from a pro-am tournament triumph. Former leg winners Rupert Zaragosa, Reymon Jaraula, Guido van der Valk and Lumbo are also expected to contend, along with Negros Occidental first-time champion Art Arbole. Russell Bautista, Ryan Monsalve, Jonas Magcalayo, Jeremy Tandoy and Ivan Yabut, meanwhile, are eager to test themselves against the established names and add more firepower to an already deep field. Foreign bidders Kim Tae Soo, Chonkoo Kang and Lee Song further add to the competitive mix, setting the stage for another high-quality, closely fought championship at Pueblo de Oro. TMT
