Liong Mah Design announced the green micarta and burlap finish handles for the Tanto One EDC knife collection. The green micarta handle style is available on the Warrior two and other signature knives from the studio's collection.

The announcement coincides with a recent market analysis discussing the increasing popularity of EDC knives in an urban environment. The Tanto One represents the first step in a design evolution that began with the Warrior v2 and the Lanny. The new green micarta and burlap micarta on a titanium handle allows for design versatility without sacrificing function.

A key contributing factor to the growth of the single-blade pocket knife market is its ease of use and multipurpose utility, allowing it to be carried around more conveniently than multi-tools and full-sized tools.

Liong Mah Design highlights the benefits of canvas micarta, a material with a classic look and feel. First, thermosetting resins are blended with canvas cloth to form laminated canvas sheets. Then, high heat and pressure press layers of canvas together. This results in a dense, thick material that can be fabricated into many forms and sizes.

With a blade length of 3.75 inches and two-piece titanium handles with an integrated backspacer, the T-1 Burlap Micarta juxtaposes a classic canvas texture with an ultra-slim lightweight titanium blade. In addition to being extremely durable, this knife handle material is not easily scratched or dented.

Liong Mah developed his passion and expertise for knife crafting while working as a chef in NYC. Having perfected his art, Liong Mah Design was conceived. In crafting the knives, he seeks to create functional works of art.

According to a spokesperson for the company, "We wanted to create an EDC that was both functional and practical, yet stylish and suitable for various use cases. Micarta is exceptionally durable, and the new T-1's machined handle lends it a smooth feel against your skin when cutting things up with precision and accuracy. The philosophy of Liong Mah Design is to design and manufacture knives that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional."

Blu Girls gun for Asian Games bronze vs Chinese Taipei

The Philippine women’s softball team closed the preliminary round with a 9-3 victory over Hong Kong on Friday and will vie for the bronze medal against Chinese Taipei on Saturday in the 20th Asian Games at the Anjo Softball Ground in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Girls will have a chance to redeem themselves from a 1-10 preliminary round setback against Chinese Taipei on Sept. 27 and give the Philippines its first ever medal in Asian Games softball. The Philippines finished fourth in each of the previous three editions of the Asian Games. The women's softball gold medal will be disputed by Japan and China. Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asa-Phil) president Jean Henri Lhuillier praised the Blu Girls for keeping their medal dreams alive and continuing to fight after the setback against China on Thursday. “This is the opportunity we have been working and fighting for,” said Lhuillier, who is also president and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.  “The Blu Girls have shown tremendous resilience throughout this tournament, and now they have the chance to make history for Philippine softball.  The Philippines lost the bronze medal match against Chinese Taipei in the previous edition of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. “We know Chinese Taipei will be a tough opponent, but I believe in this team's heart, preparation, and determination. We are behind them all the way as they give everything they have for that historic medal and for the country,” Lhuillier added. Against Hong Kong, the Philippines was led by Ma. Angelu Gabriel who finished with three hits, an RBI and two runs in four at-bats. Roma Jane Cruz added two hits and a team-high three RBIs while Reyae Mae Villamin drove in two runs for the Blu Girls. Royevel Palma pitched six scoreless innings for the Philippines, limiting Hong Kong to four hits while striking out three without issuing a walk.  The Philippines finished the classification round in fourth place with a 4-3 win-loss record.
