A new guide by moving specialists at Movers.com explains how to properly pack and protect a dining room set during an interstate move.

While the dining room is usually the easiest room to pack, since it doesn’t have that many items of furniture and knick-knacks, Movers.com knows that, for many homeowners, it is also the room which holds the most precious and expensive piece of furniture - the dining room set. As such, in the new guide, the moving experts explain how to protect the dining room set from damage during transport.

More information about Movers.com and the full guide can be found at https://www.movers.com/packing-guides/how-to-pack-a-dining-room.html

Ever since June published its 2019 survey which revealed that only 48% of Americans used their dining room, this once focal point of American homes has been falling out of favor with each passing year. Movers.com believes that, because the dining room is so rarely used in the modern era, it is the perfect room to start the packing process.

The moving specialists suggest starting with the dining room table, which should be disassembled for easier packing, loading, and transportation. Once disassembled, all individual pieces should be packed separately. For glass tabletops, Movers.com recommends moving pads and bubble wrap; the former will prevent the bubble wrap from leaving impressions while the latter will protect the glass from getting scratched or cracked.

For wood surfaces, including wooden tabletops, the guide suggests using furniture pads or moving blankets before plastic wrapping to avoid damage to the wood’s finish. Protective corners are also recommended as an additional layer of protection.

When it comes to chairs, Movers.com also advises disassembling the pieces and using bubble wrap for packing. Alternatively, movers can pack the entire chair using furniture blankets and tape.

Along with packing advice, the full guide includes tips on loading the dining room set onto the truck, for those planning a DIY move. If, however, movers prefer to leave everything - or part of the moving process - to the professionals, Movers.com can provide up to seven no-cost estimates from licensed and insured moving companies.

NCAA: San Beda escapes EAC to end crossover round with victory

MANILA, Philippines — San Beda University survived a late fourth-quarter rally pulled by Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 89-86, to end the crossover round with a victory in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament on Monday afternoon at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. The EAC Generals pulled a late 12-0 rally in the fourth quarter to take the lead and erase the nine-point lead of the San Bed Red Lions, 86-85, courtesy of EJ Castillo and Jude Bagay putting up the fight with one minute and 16 seconds remaining. However, Castillo committed an unsportsmanlike foul on RC Calimag, who took advantage of the opportunity and scored both of his free throws, 87-86. With four seconds remaining, Calimag made a trip to the charity stripe once more, sinking both of his free throws to give San Beda a three-point lead, 89-86. MJ Raymundo missed the game-tying shot that allowed San Beda to stretch its win streak over EAC to 28 games. The last time EAC won over San Beda was on Sept. 17, 2024. “We know EAC is going to go hard on the basket; that is something that we knew before heading to this game. But it’s different when you’re inside. We just need to toughen up. I know we were too soft in that fourth quarter when we were up,” head coach Yuri Escueta told the media after the game. The Red Lions ended the second round with a 6-3 win-loss record in Group A, while EAC fell to 3-6 in Group B. San Beda relied on Aldous Torculas, who made 19 points and seven rebounds, along with four assists. John Bonzalida added 12 points, while Jimuel Reyes and RC Calming made 11 points identically. EAC was led by Castillo’s 19 points and three assists.
