As the leader of iPark for many years, Bill Lerner has transformed his business into the biggest family-owned parking service in New York. What began as a single 25-car lot in 1960 has now grown to nearly 150 facilities, with future properties in the works as parking needs continue to increase. While iPark’s achievements can certainly be attributed to sound decision-making and management, Lerner’s openness to new ideas and philosophies in terms of business operations has been the driving force behind the company’s consistent expansion. The American entrepreneur discusses his role as an innovator, and how these decisions have driven sustained success.

It’s easy to think of innovation within a business as profound, game-changing revelations that completely alter an industry's way of thinking, but that is not always the case. Scott Steinberg, a contributor for Parade writes that evolutionary changes, defined as slight shifts in business strategy or thinking, can often be every bit as powerful as revolutionary advancements. He adds that people often forget that, usually, all it takes to get ahead is just a minor shift in tactics or perspective. For Lerner, this has often meant accommodating various trends and shifts that reflect on consumer’s everyday lifestyles. In an interview with Park Exec, Lerner noted that it’s now essential to be technologically capable and that their customer base has become primarily a tech community.

One particular example of Lerner’s approach is the implementation of a user-friendly, streamlined online booking framework that became a major factor in the company’s growth, especially in the New York City area. Lerner says that the amenities their clientele enjoy in other markets have to be available within theirs in order to retain their business. More recently, the rise in use of electric vehicles prompted Lerner to initiate a partnership with Tesla Motors, Inc. and CarCharging, resulting in the installation of charging stations at a number of iPark garages, with plans to eventually offer them at every facility. Lerner told CNBC that he feels that 10 years out, more new cars will be electric than gasoline-based, and that there's going to come a day when you can't find a place to gas up in Manhattan. Regardless of what the future holds, Bill Lerner will continue to utilize his innovative business approach in the way his company operates, furthering its success in an ever-changing industry that relies on anticipating consumer’s preferences on all levels.

Bill Lerner
is the President and CEO of iPark, New York’s largest family-owned parking garage entity. Upon graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in Business, Billy officially joined his father’s company, then known as Imperial Parking Systems, where he began to strategically redevelop its operational functions, eventually rebranding the business as iPark. Today, he personally oversees all technological transitions, placing the company at the forefront of the parking industry’s ongoing evolution. A husband and father of three, Billy devotes his spare time to a number of charitable and philanthropic causes, most notably Billy4Kids; a nonprofit organization he founded that works to provide shoes for underprivileged children in communities throughout the world.

NU, Letran dispute solo lead in SSL Unity Cup

MANILA, Philippines — Five-peat-seeking National University braces for Letran’s tough resistance when the two unbeaten teams clash for the solo lead in Pool A of the 2026 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.    Lady Bulldogs head coach Norman Miguel sees the reigning NCAA champion Lady Knights as one of the biggest threats to their reign. Miguel knows that even with NU’s advantage in depth and firepower, Letran is not a team to be taken lightly when they meet at 3 p.m. as action in the league’s centerpiece competition, backed by Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken, Potato Corner and R&B Milk Tea resumes after an 11-day break.     “Letran, being the NCAA champion, has gained so much experience and we know magagamit nila sa game ‘yun. Kaya walang reason para maging complacent kami sa game,” Miguel said. The Lady Bulldogs had a dominating start in their title-retention bid, sweeping past San Beda University, 25-14, 25-19, 25-18, last September 26. Arah Panique, who scored nine points in the previous match, will again lead NU’s charge alongside veterans Vange Alinsug, Alexa Mata, Chams Maaya, Celine Marsh, Harlyn Serneche and Sam Cantada. The Lady Knights, meanwhile, are coming off a huge opening-day win after tripping Arellano University, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, 25-18, last September 27. Letran coach Aleksi Lahteenmaki is pinning his hopes on Judiel Nitura, Carlyn Tizon, Sheena Sarie and Kaizah Huyno to pull off an upset over NU. Meanwhile, Far Eastern University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos square off at 1 p.m. to open the triple-header playdate of the tournament, supported by Smart, PusoP.com DICT, Executive Optical, Milo and Summit Natural Drinking Water, with the Philippine Sports Commission, the Commission on Higher Education, Mikasa, Asics, Rigour Technology, Jersey Haven, Solar Sports and 12 Beyond Production as technical partners.  The Lady Tamaraws and Lady Stags are tied on top of Pool C. FEU hurdled Ateneo De Manila University, 25-20, 25-13, 25-12, in its first game while SSC-R outlasted Emilio Aguinaldo College in a come-from-behind, 16-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-6, thriller. In the other pairing, University of the Philippines debuts against rebound-seeking University of the East at 5 p.m. in their Pool D showdown. The Lady Warriors seek to bounce back from a 22-25, 26-24, 26-24, 12-25, 13-15, defeat to Lyceum of the Philippines University. All games are available live and on demand via PusoP.com and Solar Sports. TMT
