6 Crucial Reasons to Safeguard 401(k) Plans with Gold

401(k) plans lost 23% of their 401(k) savings in 2022, according to Fidelity Investments, the largest provider of 401(k) plans in the United States. The conglomerate reported a decline in the average 401(k) plan balance and individual retirement account (IRA) balance in the fourth quarter of 2022.

While the average 401(k) plan balance saw a rise during the quarter, it ended the year down by 23% from 2021. Similarly, the average IRA balance fell by 20% in 12 months. Unfortunately, experts are predicting an inevitable market crash soon.

Here are 6 crucial reasons companies must protect their employees’ 401(k) plans from a catastrophic market crash with physical gold.

1. Inflation

Inflation is the rate at which the general level of prices for goods and services is increasing, and it is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Core inflation has risen with the CPI increasing by 17.67% since 2019, the highest rate of inflation in 40 years.`

Inflation erodes the value of 401(k) assets. For example, if core inflation is at 17.67% (which is negative), and the rate of return on a 401(k) is minus 5% (-5%), the rate of return is negative 22.67%, (-22.67%). That means $100,000 in any retirement account would only have the purchasing power of $77,330.

2. Dollar devaluation

Devaluation is a decline in the value of a currency relative to other currencies. This occurs for a variety of reasons, not limited to changes in interest rates, economic growth rates, and government policies.

The Federal Reserve provided trillions of dollars in economic stimulus and relief measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of September 2021, the Feds have allocated more than $5 trillion in COVID-19 relief spending, which includes direct payments to individuals, expanded unemployment benefits, small business loans, funding for vaccine distribution and COVID-related research. These policies have increased the money supply in the market, devaluing the dollar tremendously.

3. Astronomical Fees

401(k) plan fees are the charges associated with managing the plan, including investment management fees, administrative fees, and other expenses. As a general rule, total plan fees typically range from 0.50% to 2.00% of assets under management (AUM) annually.

Here is a breakdown of the different fees and their typical ranges:

(a). Investment management fees are typically between 0.10% and 1.00% of AUM annually.

(b). Administrative fees are typically between 0.10% and 0.50% of AUM annually.

(c). Individual service fees vary widely depending on the service provided.

These exorbitant fees are charged even as 401(k) asset values evaporate.

4. Bank Failures and Bailouts

A bank failure ensues when a bank is unable to meet its financial obligations and is forced to close its doors. In the past week, the banking sector has been in turmoil, with high-profile bank collapses sending shockwaves through the economy.

Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank and Silvergate Bank all failed in the last week. Once more, the federal government provides billions of dollars of financial support to the banks to prevent further economic instability. There has never been a time when the federal government paid back individuals whose 401(k) funds got stolen by Wall Street banks.

5. High Taxes

A 401(k) plan is a retirement savings plan offered by employers to their employees. The plan allows employees to contribute a portion of their pre-tax income into a tax-deferred investment account, which can grow over time and provide income in retirement. The problem is with 8 market crashes since 1980, high inflation and other economic disasters, 401(k) plans continue to lose money unabated.

As a reminder and cautionary note, 401(k) plans are a tax-deferred investment vehicle. It simply means taxes have never been paid on the earned income. A 401(k) investor may owe the IRS as much as 30% tax upon receiving a voluntary or forced distribution. A market crash depletion of the funds is not taken into consideration.

6. Market Crash

Since all 401(k) portfolios primarily hold traditional mutual funds, stocks and bonds, the stock market’s volatility will always negatively impact these financial assets.

Market crashes are an excruciating blow to hardworking American families that lose their 401(k) savings. When the markets crash, Americans are stripped of an enormous portion of their life savings, leaving them in a state of hopelessness. This demoralizing experience shatters their very being and deprives them of their dignity. Years of backbreaking work and self-sacrifice are instantaneously obliterated, causing unimaginable trauma.

The good news is that there is a solution: 401(k) Gold Group, Inc.

401(k) Gold Group, Inc. helps corporations and their employees protect 401(k) plans from catastrophic losses with physical gold. The company's gold-backed 401(k) plans help fortify retirement savings against market loss without changing the plan.

As a store of wealth and a multi-faceted hedge, gold has outperformed many major asset classes while providing a prosperous performance in both rising and falling markets. Companies with 401(k) plans may choose to include gold in their retirement portfolio to hedge against losses in other assets.

According to data from the World Gold Council, the price of gold increased by over 25% in 2020 alone, while the price of silver increased by over 47%. Clients with precious metals-backed accounts have experienced a cumulative 85% growth in value since 2016.

It's not just corporations and their employees that can benefit from 401(k) Gold Group's services. Sole proprietors can now own physical gold and silver bars through the company's gold-backed solo 401(k)s. Pension plans can also hold tangible assets like gold and silver, which was never possible. Until now.

In conclusion, bank failures, bailouts, high inflation, dollar devaluation, the Federal Reserve printing trillions of dollars, a looming market crash, and post-COVID ramifications are a recipe for disaster for 401(k) plan assets. As 401(k) plan assets continue to vaporize, companies need to take proactive steps to protect their employees’ retirement savings. Diversifying their portfolios into tangible assets like physical gold could reduce exposure to risky assets and may help mitigate loss.

Warriors' Kristaps Porzingis remains out indefinitely

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis visited the team's practice facility and met with general manager Mike Dunleavy and Vice President of Player Health and Performance Dr. Rick Celebrini regarding a health-related matter that has kept the big man out of training camp and preseason games. Porzingis also provided an update Wednesday on his social media. “Hello people, I’m working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap. Honestly, I’m getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I’ll be feeling great again soon,” he wrote. “It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can’t exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career, so it has added up for sure, but we will get through it. Health is wealth. Thank you for all the support.” The Warriors said Wednesday that Porzingis came to Chase Center on Tuesday for meetings and that he will remain out indefinitely, but will now be around his teammates in some capacity. “An update on his status, including the potential resumption of practice, playing status or timeline, will be provided when available and appropriate,” the team said in a statement. On media day last month, Dunleavy provided no details on what Porzingis is dealing with and wasn’t ready to call it a long-term concern and wouldn't rule him out for the season opener on Oct. 21 at the Los Angeles Lakers. That now would seem in doubt. Porzingis didn't travel with the team to Hawaii for training camp. In March when he missed time with a medical issue and illness, coach Steve Kerr referred to it as “mysterious.” Porzingis reached an agreement on a two-year, $40 million contract in late June. The 31-year-old Latvian joined Golden State at the February trade deadline from Atlanta in a swap that sent Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga to the Hawks. The 7-foot-2 veteran played only 32 games last season combined with the Hawks and Warriors, averaging 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 blocks. Porzingis missed significant time after coming to the Warriors — his sixth NBA team — playing in just 15 games with 11 starts.

PNVF rolls out major organizational reform

MANILA, Philippines — The promised reform is now being delivered as the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) overhauled its organization with some key appointments that aim to boost the national teams in future international events. PNVF Executive Director Atty. Miguel Carlos Pacifico F. Suarez announced the major changes in the Alas Pilipinas Men's and Women's indoor volleyball teams, while the beach volleyball squads will remain intact following their successful campaign in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya recently. Leading the list of appointments will be the return of Dante Alinsunurin as head coach of the Alas Pilipinas Men squad. Alinsunurin, the head coach of the National University Bulldogs in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), will regain the role he had seven years after steering the Alas Pilipinas Men squad to a historic silver medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019. He will take over from Italian mentor Angiolino Frigoni, who has been tasked to handle the Alas Pilipinas Women squad in an interim capacity as the federation begins its long-term development for the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup that the country will host in 2029. Suarez added that to avoid conflict, PNVF president Frank Lao will focus his resources on the Alas Pilipinas Men squad through his Strong Group Athletics (SGA) – the organization behind the PVL franchises Farm Fresh and ZUS Coffee. A distinguished business leader and avid sportsman who was elected as PNVF president just last August, Lao vows to direct all the financial resources to the national athletes to streamline the administrative process and eliminate the delay in the disbursement of allowances. So far, Lao has used his personal funds to cover the financial liabilities and other obligations that he inherited from the previous PNVF administrations. Lao will also chair the national team commission together with Bo Perasol of the UAAP, Victor Calvo of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Sherwin Malonzo of the PVL, and Dr. Ian Laurel of the Shakey’s Super League. “Our president, Mr. Frank Lao, is delivering on his commitment to drive reforms within the federation,” Suarez said in an official statement on Thursday. “He wants to eliminate delays in the issuance of allowances, which is why he is disbursing his financial support directly to our national athletes. By doing so, he is setting a clear precedent for other potential sponsors to follow. Through these steps, we are laying a strong foundation of integrity, credibility, and good governance — values that will anchor our organization moving forward.” Rebisco, on the other hand, will serve as chief sponsor of the beach volleyball teams, bannered by Khylem Progella and Sofiah Pagara who won the bronze medal in the women’s event of the 20th Asian Games. The PNVF also gave bigger roles to Creamline Cool Smashers team coordinator Ma. Carlota Celda and volleyball commentator Jaime Ascalon. Celda will replace Ronwald Kris Dimaculangan as team manager of the Alas Pilipinas Men while Ascalon will be stepping in for Hollie Reyes as team manager of Alas Pilipinas Women. Furthermore, former Cignal Super Spiker team manager Juanito Gregorio will serve as Deputy Executive Director to assist Suarez with administrative duties, while being considered for the Athletes Commission are Alyssa Valdez, Dawn Macandili-Catindig, Ysay Marasigan, Ran Abdilla, Julia Coronel, Rex Intal, Majoy Baron, Jia Morado-de Guzman, Jessie Lopez, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Bernadeth Pons, Alyssa Solomon, and Len Escollante, who was part of the national squad that won a gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in 1993. “These executives bring not only high-level capability, work ethic, and wisdom, but also an unwavering commitment to driving Philippine volleyball to greater heights,” Suarez said. “We are confident that we have the right people, the right vision, and the right strategy to build a national sports federation fully capable of bringing glory to the country on the international stage.” TMT

Zaragosa wins wild Pueblo de Oro thriller – without knowing he had it sealed

Zaragosa wins wild Pueblo de Oro thriller – without knowing he had it sealed

MANILA, Philippines – Rupert Zaragosa summoned precision to overcome his lack of length, delivered clutch birdies when the pressure peaked, then endured an anxious final-hole bogey before discovering he had done enough to win the ICTSI Pueblo de Oro Championship on Thursday. In a rain-soaked final-round shootout marked by dramatic lead changes, costly mistakes and pressure-packed shots, Zaragosa fired a four-under 68 to finish at 276, edging Keanu Jahns and Zanieboy Gialon by one stroke in one of the most gripping finishes of the Philippine Golf Tour season. The diminutive but gifted shotmaker appeared to have seized control with birdies on Nos. 16 and 17, the latter punctuated by a superb 16-foot putt and an emphatic roar. Yet even as the final-hole drama unfolded around him, Zaragosa remained unaware of the state of the leaderboard – and of just how close he was to ending his winless run this season. Holding what he believed was no assured advantage, he drove safely on the par-4 18th but came up short of the green. His chip stopped six feet from the cup, only for his par putt to slide by, leaving him with a bogey and a closing-round card that suddenly looked vulnerable. After holing out, Zaragosa turned to ask whether he had won. He had. His 12-under total stood up as both Jahns and Gialon failed to make the birdies they needed to force a playoff, giving Zaragosa an emotional victory forged through patience, precision and nerves of steel. “I didn’t know that I won until after holing out,” said Zaragosa in Filipino, still seemingly catching up with the drama that had unfolded over the closing holes. “I knew I was tied with Keanu and Zanieboy after the 14th hole, but from there, I just stayed focused on my game," said Zaragosa. With the winding par-5 17th demanding a bit of everything, Zaragosa opted for a 3-wood off the tee before laying up and hitting his approach to within 16 feet. He then sank the putt for a crucial birdie that proved decisive. “The birdie on No. 17 really made the difference and gave me the win,” he said. Pocketing the top prize of P448,750, Zaragosa described the thrilling victory as one of the finest moments of his four-win career, although he admitted he had a good feeling about his chances even before the tournament began on Monday. “I actually had a feeling I could win this week because everything felt right. My game was in good shape, I was hitting the ball well, and my putting was coming together. I felt I had a real chance,” he said. The victory was particularly rewarding for Zaragosa, who had been in contention in several of his previous tournaments but had struggled to close out those campaigns with a win. “This victory feels really special because in my past few tournaments, I was always in contention but just couldn’t get over the hump and finish on top. At least now, I’ve proven to myself that I can do it. I’m thankful and fortunate that everything came together this week,” he said. Despite the latest triumph, Zaragosa still considers his breakthrough victory in Iloilo in 2023 the most memorable of his career. His latest win, however, was all the more impressive given the conditions and the depth of the challenge. Overnight heavy rains softened the Pueblo de Oro layout, prompting preferred lies and offering players opportunities to attack. But with as many as five contenders still in the hunt deep into the final round, the favorable lies did little to ease the pressure. Every approach, putt and recovery shot carried enormous weight, and the smallest lapse threatened to undo hours of disciplined play. Starting two strokes behind third-round leader Clyde Mondilla, Zaragosa refused to force the issue early, grinding out pars through his first seven holes before gradually working his way into the thick of the fight. Birdies on Nos. 8, 11 and 14 brought him into contention as the leaderboard tightened, with Jahns, Gialon and other challengers trading blows in a relentless battle for control. Jahns mounted one of the day's strongest charges, stringing together four consecutive birdies from No. 7 to draw level with Russell Bautista midway through the round. After a stretch of pars, he birdied No. 14 to join Zaragosa and Gialon in a three-way tie at 12-under, setting up a tense closing stretch in which a single birdie could determine the champion. But Jahns could not deliver another decisive blow. He came up empty on the remaining holes, including a missed 16-foot birdie attempt on No. 18, settling for a 68 and a 277 total – one shot short of a playoff. Gialon, meanwhile, appeared poised to force extra holes after keeping pace with Zaragosa and reaching 12-under. Playing ahead of the final flight, he carried his challenge to the 18th before a costly mistake ended his hopes. His approach sailed over the green, and his ensuing bump-and-run proved too strong on the slick putting surface. The ball raced past the hole, leaving him unable to save par. The bogey spoiled an otherwise bogey-free round, settling for a 67 and left him at 277, tied with Jahns for second. Each received P230,625. Those late stumbles proved decisive. While Zaragosa had already done the damage with his back-to-back birdies from No. 16, his rivals could only watch their chances slip away through missed opportunities and unforgiving closing-hole mistakes. The birdie on No. 17 was particularly telling. From about 20 feet, Zaragosa rolled in the putt that effectively secured the championship, unleashing a roar that reflected the magnitude of the moment. It was the defining stroke of a round in which his accuracy and touch repeatedly compensated for his lack of power. Mondilla, who had rekindled hopes of ending a two-year title drought by charging into the third-round lead, could not sustain the momentum. His powerful drives failed to translate into enough quality birdie chances, and he signed for a 73 to finish fourth at 279. Bautista also stayed within striking distance for much of the day before his challenge unraveled on the closing holes. A double bogey on No. 17 followed by a bogey on the last left him with a 74 and a fifth-place finish at 281. Guido van der Valk rallied with a 70 to tie for sixth at 284 with Jelbert Gamolo and Lumbo, who carded 73 and 75, respectively. Reigning Order of Merit champion and two-leg winner this season Angelo Que also mounted a late charge, firing a 69 to tie Reymon Jaraula for ninth at 285. Jaraula struggled to a 73. Junior PGT standout Ralph Batican wavered with a 75 after stringing three-under par rounds but his 286 and joint 11th place finish proved more than enough to net him the low amateur honors. In the end, the championship was decided not by sheer power or a flawless finish, but by the ability to seize the critical moments. Zaragosa's measured start kept him in the hunt, his late birdies put him in command, and his composure carried him through a nerve-racking finish – even when he did not know he had already done enough. On a day when the rain-softened course offered chances but the pressure punished every mistake, Zaragosa found the shots that mattered most. His final-hole bogey could not erase the brilliance of the two birdies that came before it. TMT

World No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters impressed with PH's love for pickleball

MANILA, Philippines — World No. 1 pickleball star Anna Leigh Waters made a visit to the Philippines for the first time and expressed her admiration for the Filipino’s love for the sport. The 19-year-old athlete spent three days in the Philippines, where she interacted with fans, played exhibition matches, and partnered with a wellness brand—also noticing how the Filipinos have a love and passion for the sport. “They’re very passionate about the game. I think the pickleball players in the Philippines enjoy playing it every day; it has become part of their lifestyle. And maybe, it has also become part of the culture here in the Philippines,” Waters said during the press conference hosted by Franklin Sports and IAM Worldwide at the Dusit Thani Hotel at noon on Thursday. “It is really cool to see, even though I know in America the sport has been growing, but pickleball does not have that element it has here in the Philippines… Well, not yet,” she added. Waters has enjoyed her stay in the Philippines, emphasizing the warmth she received on her tour. The American pickleball player played in an exhibition match in Mall of Asia, engaged with fans in Bonifacio Global City, tried cultural elements, and also joined a new wellness journey with IAM Worldwide.  “Thank you to all the Filipinos I met. You guys have been so loving, and the support that you showed has been something that I’ll never forget,” she added.  Waters will return to the Philippines on Dec. 9, playing at the Araneta Coliseum.  Recently, IAM Worldwide has launched its newest commercial starring global pickleball sensation and undisputed World No. 1 Waters.  The campaign spotlights the multi-titled champion promoting the IAM Amazing Organic Barley Gummies, reinforcing the connection between elite athletic performance and accessible daily nutrition. The launch arrives as pickleball continues its meteoric rise as the world's fastest-growing sport. Sweeping across continents from North America to Asia, the paddle sport has transcended casual recreational play to become a global cultural phenomenon.  The Philippines has rapidly emerged as a key epicenter for pickleball in Southeast Asia. Across Metro Manila and key regions, the sport’s accessible, fast-paced, and highly social nature has ignited a nationwide obsession, with dedicated complexes opening nationwide and thousands of local "picklers" joining the movement. In the playful yet high-energy commercial, Waters is seen engaging in a competitive pickleball rally against a cute, animated IAM Gummy Bear, highlighting the dynamic blend of high-level athletic performance and recreational fun.  But beyond the playful action, the 60 seconder also reflects the mental fortitude and physical drive required for Waters to remain at the very top of her sport.  The campaign’s messaging centers on conquering the unexpected and turning constant effort into physical strength, emphasizing how optimal energy, immunity, and stamina allow athletes to dominate every game while having fun along the way.
